4 and 1, and Looking Good
But not being seen...
What we saw against the Seahawks was Steelers football. Dominating defense and control the clock. The Steelers D held the Hawks to 144 yards TOTAL offense and dominated the clock as well, 40:15 to 19:45. Not to mention, look at what their doing against the run so far:
Sean Alexander, 11 carries for 25 yards. Not one carry over 10 yards for the first time in 69 games.
Edgerrine James, 21 carries for 77 yards.
Frank Gore, 14 carries for 39 yards.
Marshawn Lynch, 18 carries for 68 yards.
Jamal Lewis 11 carries for 35 yards.
The runner with the most yards was Edgerine James, the last running back to gain over 100 yards against the Steelers way back in November of 05. And he gained this 77 yards in a game where the Steelers lost.
Now, you've got Ben with more freedom and far better accuracy than last season. People are still thinking Ben was defined by last season. I'm sorry to break to all the non-Steelers fans, even with a Super Bowl victory, he's yet to define himself. So far this season, he's completed just under 62% of his passes, with 9 TDs and just 3 interceptions. He has an average passer rating of 99.2, 6th highest in the league. And nobody is talking about him.
Let's take a look at Willie Parker. 4th in the league in yards per game with 101.4. 6th in the league in total yards with 507. Now, what does concern me about Willie is he currently leads the league in Fumbles with 6. 6 Fumbles in 5 games is bad. However, that is correctable. And since we're talking about Willie, look for him to have a huge game against Denver who is currently ranked LAST IN THE LEAGUE against the run. In fact, I would see if you can pick up Naje Davenport on your fantasy team as well. With a run defense as bad as Denver, those two should combine for some big points. Now, oddly enough, Denver is 1st in the league in Pass defense, so again, we will run and we will run well. And guess what? Nobody is talking about him either.
Defense. Defense. Defense. The Steelers are #2 against the pass, #4 against the run, #1 in points allowed with 47, that's under 10 points per game, and they are tied for 4th in sacks with 17. And guess what? Nobody is talking about it.
The only team anyone is talking about is the New England Patriots. Yes, they are 6-0 and they manhandled Dallas in week 6. But let me remind you, Dallas is the first team the Patriots have played with winning record. And you can look it up, but Dallas isn't exactly a defensive powerhouse like the Steelers.
Now, you take what I've told you so far and look at the remaining schedule:
Sun, Oct. 21 @ Broncos
Sun, Oct. 28 @ Bengals
Mon, Nov. 5 vs. Ravens
Sun, Nov. 11 vs. Browns
Sun, Nov. 18 @ Jets
Mon, Nov. 26 vs. Dolphins
Sun, Dec. 2 vs. Bengals
Sun, Dec. 9 @ Patriots
Sun, Dec. 16 vs. Jaguars
Thur, Dec. 20 @ Rams
Sun, Dec. 30 @ Ravens
With how the Steelers have been playing and the way the remaining teams on the schedule have been playing, at this point in the season, I truly believe that 13-3, maybe even 14-2 are distinct possibilities. Let's just hope everybody keeps talking about the Patriots. That way, they won't see the Steelers coming...
