We Should Have Benched Ben
And I don't think it's too late to do it now...
That's right boys and girls, I'm saying we should bench Ben. He's not sharp. He's not playing the way we know he can. Be it from 2 concussions in the last 5 months or the 3 surgeries in the last year, or the fact he believes he can't be benched, he's not playing well.
After 4 interception against the Raiders, I believe the coaching staff needs to take a hard look at this. I don't know all the dynamics of what Ben is telling the coaches, but I think the coaches need to take the decision out of his hands. I'm sure Ben is telling them he feels fine. At least that what he's telling us via the media. But he's not playing fine and I honestly think he needs to compete for the starting position.
Ben has taken responsibility for the loss tonight in the post game press conference. But that's easier said than done. If he wasn't feeling 100%, which I don't believe he was, his responsibility is to the team and he should have been honest with the coaches and sat this one out.
Charlie Batch, regardless of what he did in Detroit, is playing much better than Ben. In a game and a half, Batch is 24 of 39 for 410 yards with 0 interceptions and 5 TD's He has as many TD passes as Ben. His QB Rating is 136.8. Ben's was 74.5 before today's game. After today, Ben's will drop even lower.
I think, by benching Ben, we solve whatever the problem is with him. If he's not healthy, we give him the rest he needs. If he's just not playing well, sitting his ass on the bench just might motivate him to play better.
Sorry Ben. I'm not turning my back on you. You're still my guy. But I am a strong proponent of tough love. And I think at this point, it's time to get tough on you and make you be honest with yourself.
