Huh?

Ok, I'm no climatologists, but I find this headline confusing...

Global warming boost to glaciers

I thought the glaciers were melting because of global warming. Well, according to the article:

"They found warmer winters and cooler summers, combined with more snow and rainfall, could be causing some mountain glaciers to increase in size."

So, the glaciers, which are made of ice, are growing because of warmer temperatures? I should have gone to college, because I'm completely lost. Do these scientist, that we depend on for information know what the hell they're talking about?

I found this as well. It appears glacier growth is also happening in California. From this article:

"During the last 50 years, glaciers on the summit of Mt. Shasta in northern California have bulked up, according to Ian Howat of the University of California, Santa Cruz. Howat and a team of earth scientists from UCSC traveled to the summit of Mt. Shasta a few years ago to predict the expiration date of small glaciers on Mt. Shasta. Instead, they found the glaciers had grown since 1951, and the largest, Whitney Glacier, had advanced about one kilometer during that time."

Again, I thought the glaciers were melting and that was going to cause wide spread death and destruction. But wait, it gets better...

Mars Is Warming, NASA Scientists Report

Global warming on Mars? What's causing that? Too many Martians driving Martian SUVs?

Seems to me, nobody knows what the hell they're talking about. In the 70's, we were facing another ice age because of global cooling. Now, the glaciers are growing because of global warming. Make up my mind for crying out loud.

You know what I think? I think human scientist are some of the most egotistical beings in the universe. They say we humans can have an effect on the weather of a planet that has been around for 57 zillion years. That's a fairly egotistical assumption considering we've only learned to accurately measure weather in the last 200 years. And, we still can't predict weather for tomorrow, much less a hundred years from now.

Ask a scientist, he'll probably tell you we're the only form of intelligent life in all the universe, and there is no God. Well, I've been told my entire life, you can't prove a negative. Is there proof of NO other intelligent life in the universe? Is there proof there is no God? Not if you can't prove a negative.

I don't know what the answers are. I don't know if global warming, or cooling or whatever, is the result of human activity. I don't know if we're the only intelligent life in the universe. But I do know, it's fairly egotistical to assume we are the only intelligent life in all the vastness of space. It's fairly egotistical to think we can have an effect on the weather of a planet that has been around for as long as this one. Especially, when they now tell us there is global warming on Mars as well.

You know what, until you can prove it, shut the hell up and quit trying to scare people into buying a car that goes 0 to 60 in about 2 days.

Too funny. They're so full of crap-they being those trying to scare the world into buying their book or movie about Global Warming.

And now, Pluto isn't even a planet! Shows what all the "scientist" know. What next?!?

I'm getting so sick of it. Soooooo sick and tired of it. I'm almost as tired of global warming as I am Bush-bashing.

Wait...its bushes fault, his climate creater has malfunctioned and made the glaciers grow WHILE heating up the earth to cause Katrina...its all making sense to me now...

I'm still confused... Warmer temps make glaciers grow. The burning of fossile fuels cause global warming, yet there is global warming on Mars. So, exactly what fossile fuels are there on Mars that are causing that problem?

I'm sorry, but I don't think anybody knows anything. So, you know what, get in your SUV, go get some beers, a pack of smokes and live your life. Because either way, we're dead. May as well have a good time in the process...

First let me say that I agree with both sides on this issue. I doubt human activity can be changed enough to affect the global climate. On the other hand, I think that less polution and more efficient use of what resources we have is a great idea.

As for the glaciers, recent weather patterns have caused more preciptation in the western US mountains. Even though the temperatures may be higher, they are still low enough for snow to accumulate and remain over the summer so the glaciers get bigger. Most of Mt Shasta is above 11000 feet, whereas most of the glaciers that are receding are below 8000 feet, some are even at sea level.
